Brooklyn resident Frank Ballance, who had tickets for the noon showing of “The Dark Knight Rises” at the cinema on Court Street said he saw two undercover officers walking around the grounds. The NYPD is stepping up security in the wake of a shooting at a suburban Colorado movie theater that killed 12 people and injured scores of others. Katherine Creag reports.

Everybody in the pool! McCarren Park Pool opened as a pool for the first time in a long time yesterday. 

Watch your step. A subway staircase in Sunset Park has been tripping up passengers for months, and a filmmaker who’s frequently stumbled decided to find out why. His video documenting the frequent slips on the stairs went viral, causing the MTA to investigate. It turns out the stair is about an inch higher than the rest. The stairway is now under construction.
