Social Media. President Obama’s klout score TOTALLY dipped last Friday after over 36,000 people unfollowed him as he encouraged they tweet at their congressmen to settle on a debt ceiling deal. But his social media efforts were not all for naught, it turns out.
White House communications director Dan Pfeiffer tweeted with New York Times media reporter Brian Stelter over the weekend and affirmed that the “White House believes emails/tweets helped pressure Congress to act.”
Just how influential Twitter was, though, will always be a mystery. The LA Times Blog points out ” it’s clear social media has become a big gun in the political arsenal — even if it’s one that can misfire.” I guess we can all keep trying.
